The Airport Express

The Airport Express is the MTR's airport railway. It opened on 6 July 1998 and serves five stations: Hong Kong (in Central), Kowloon, Tsing Yi, Airport and AsiaWorld-Expo.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2

New departure facilities at Terminal 2 came into use on 27 May 2026. The Transport Department says Platforms 3 and 4 at Airport Station, which connect to T2, are in service. Airport-bound A and NA bus routes now stop at T1 first and then at the T2 drop-off area. Check with your airline which terminal you fly from.

In-town check-in

On the way back, some airlines let Airport Express passengers check in their bags at Hong Kong or Kowloon Station. The MTR says you can check in from 24 hours to 90 minutes before your flight, within each airline's hours. It is only for passengers with valid electronic travel documents on the listed airlines, and not every airline is at both stations. You enter with an Octopus, a contactless bank card, a QR code or an Airport Express ticket, and the full fare is charged at the check-in gate. See the MTR in-town check-in page for the current list.

Airport buses

Citybus and Long Win Bus run the airport routes. Routes whose numbers start with A run in the day, and overnight routes start with NA. For buses to the urban areas and the New Territories, board at the airport's Ground Transportation Centre. The bus network reaches many districts the Airport Express does not, and the overnight routes run after midnight.

Taxis

All three colours may pick up at the airport's passenger terminals, but for Kowloon or Hong Kong Island you want a red taxi. The taxi stand is outside the T1 Arrivals Hall. You pay what the meter shows, and extra charges can apply. Since 1 April 2026 drivers must accept at least two e-payment methods, one QR code and one non-QR.

Your first meal in town
